The jury in the trial of four schoolboys accused of gang raping a 15-year-old girl in a Workington field has been discharged. The four teenagers, all aged under 16, had pleaded not guilty to raping and sexually assaulting the girl on 3 January. The boys went on trial at Carlisle Crown Court earlier this month. However, the hearing has now been halted due to Judge Peter Davies being taken ill. Judge Barbara Forrester discharged the seven women and five male jurors saying it was a decision she had taken with “very careful consideration.” The date for a new trial in front of a new jury has not yet been fixed.
